Postponement of Presentations and Working Bee

Published Wed 19 Aug 2020

Good Evening GSC Sailing Members,

We are all looking forward to the upcoming 2020/21 sailing season which starts next month. As you would know, we planned to celebrate last year’s sailing season in the coming weeks with the end of season awards presentations, and also prepare for the upcoming season with a series of Covid Safe working bees.

Yesterday, we received advice from the Chief Health Officer, NSW Health - Dr Kerry Chant PSM to community sport. The notice relates to updated Covid Safe recommendations which are to be implemented by Wednesday 19 August 2020. The recommendations are anticipated to remain in place for the next 6 weeks.

The recommendations include -

  • Cease face-to-face social activities relating to community sports (e.g. award ceremonies, end-of-season social gatherings, post-training group dinners).
  • Cease activities that result in the mixing of participants and staff from different regions.

The Office of Sport and Australian Sailing are seeking support from community sport and recreation organisations in implementing these additional recommendations for your upcoming community sport activities.

It is with heavy heart that, unfortunately, we need to postpone our upcoming sailing presentations and working bees to a later date. As for the beginning of the sailing season in September, we will seek further advice from the Office of Sport and Australian Sailing and advise closer to the start of the season.

Regards,

Chris Radford
