Australian Sail GP Refocus on Cadiz
Published Tue 14 Sep 2021
There was challenging racing in the latest Sail GP Championship held in St Tropez, France this week with light winds and technical issues onboard the Australian Sail GP Team.
While the Aussies had a tough regatta, not qualifying for the final race, there was plenty to keep them on their toes. For the firtst time, the F50 Catamarans were fitted out with revolutionary 29 metre wings to enable teams to foil in the light conditions. Wing Trimmer Kyle Langford commented on the state of the art engineering saying "I really enjoyed racing with it. Anything new on these boats means you need to learn new skills and adapt". Team Japan, helmed by Australian Nathan Outteridge won the Grand Prix in St Tropez after taking out the podium race against Team USA and Spain.
The Australian Sail GP Team will now shift their focus to the next event in Cadiz, Spain which will be held from 9th-10th October. This will be the last European leg of the tour before the Sail GP Event returns to Sydney from 17th-18th December. We wish the Australians smooth sailing and look forward to following their journey.
