Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of the Glenmore Phantoms community. Every family is invited to contribute, to help bring the fun to our players.

Volunteering comes in many forms, sometimes a recurring commitment you make to your team and club, and other times it means putting your hand up for a singular activity. See below some of the many ways you can support Phantoms.

Canteen Duties

The canteen is coordinated by Penrith City Softball Association. Each club will be allocated games to provide canteen support for, and these will be distributed to each team to manage their cover between them. The canteen roster will be made available to all teams shortly before the start of season.

It is important that players and their families volunteer their time when asked so that the effort is distributed and we don't see coaches and managers also taking on this additional work in service to their team.

Coaching

Phantoms will allocate a coach to every team, who will also seek a second coach to further support development of the team. Coaches will be provided with training and support. This is a terrific way to further expand your own range and play, as well as return your skill to the Phantoms community. We are always excited to welcome new coaches to the team. Send an email to glenmorephantoms@gmail.com to express your interest in joining our coaching line-up.

Scoring

Every team needs a recurring scorer! This is one of the most fun ways to immerse yourself in a game as a spectator, you'll get to know your team as well as all the others, and you'll be responsible, in collaboration with the other teams scorer for tracking the events of the game. Never scored before? That's OK - you'll learn! Scoring is a simple activity of recording bases, fouls, hits, etc. It starts out with some simplistic scoring for teeball and increases in complexity across the different age groups.

Scorers might choose to become accredited, with up to 6 levels of accreditation available.

Umpiring

Each club will be allocated games to provide umpiring support for, and these will be distributed to each team to manage their cover between them. The umpiring roster will be made available to all teams shortly before the start of season. Teams will be asked to provide a minimum of 1 base and 1 plate, and may choose to provide volunteers from amongst the team, or to collect funds together to engage one of the many trained club umpires for a paid shift. Your coach can provide direction on what is involved in volunteering for an umpiring shift.

Failing to cover your allocated umpire duties will result in a financial penalty for your team, and repeated lapses will also incur a loss of points.

While accreditation is not neccessary in order to volunteer and support your team, you can find out more about progressing your umpiring skills here

Field Support

From time to time our Association might co-ordinate a working bee, where clubs will come together to provide a day or weekends labour towards a shared goal. This might be activities related to diamond maintenance such as mowing, sweeping, debris collection.

Field support is also an ongoing activity. Help us by removing rubbish from your diamond, assisting with set up and pack down, and anything else you may observe on game or training days.

Committee

Every year during the AGM the committee roles are established. You can view this years committee roles here. In addition to the formal roles that are assigned, players and their families are welcome to participate in informal ways by attending meetings and volunteering on an as needed basis. Meetings will be publicised via Facebook and the events calendar.
