Equipment

At Glenmore Phantoms, we want playing sport to be as affordable as possible. While we provide some guidelines below, members are encouraged to reuse and recycle. Used equipment can often be found via a local Facebook Group.

Shinpads/Guards

Shin guards are mandatory for players under 12 to take the diamond for games and training. They are optional but recommended for older players.

You'll want your shin guards to cover most of the area between your ankle and knee. Shin guards should fit snugly and be at least 2″ below the knee. These might be repurposed for multiple sports.

These are purchased externally at a shop of your choice and might also be sourced used from Facebook or Gumtree.

Helmet

Phantoms players wear a helmet in any colour. This is mandatory for players when batting, or catching. Players with aspirations to join a reps team may like to purchase a black helmet that can have a metal faceguard added later, or choose one with an extended jaw guard. 

These are purchased externally at a shop of your choice and might also be sourced used from Facebook or Gumtree. Coaches may have spare helmets in their kit bag to accomodate junior players.

Glove

Players will need a glove when fielding and catching. When purchasing be mindful to purchase for the dominant hand your player will want for throwing.

A right handed player will usually want to purchase a left hand glove, for right hand throw (RHT).

A left handed player may be ambidextuous, but if they want to throw with their dominant hand, will want to purchase a right hand glove, for left hand throw (LHT).

These are purchased externally at a shop of your choice and might also be sourced used from Facebook or Gumtree. Coaches may have spare gloves in their kit bag to accomodate junior players.

Bat

Coaches have bats in their kits to accomodate players. Many players prefer to have their own bat when taking the diamond, as this can be chosen to suit their height and swing and can optimise their play.

These are purchased externally at a shop of your choice and might also be sourced used from Facebook or Gumtree.

Softball bag

A softball bag is optional and is used to carry equipment and drink bottles to and from training and games. You can purchase the official Phantoms bag from our club shop, or externally at a shop of your choice. A bag with a hook is most helpful as it can be hung up at the optimal height for the player where it is not a tripping risk.

Batting Gloves

Batting gloves are optional and are sometimes worn to provide comfort, improved grip and shock absorption when hitting. These are purchased externally at a shop of your choice.

Catchers Gear

Coaches have catchers gear in their kits to accomodate teams. Players who aspire to being a dedicated catcher may like to purchase their own however it is not required in order to catch for a Phantoms team.
