Safety on the Water | Message from the Captain

Published Mon 16 Dec 2019

Dear Members

Over recent weeks we have seen increased water restrictions and worsening air quality and pollution due to the extreme drought and bushfire conditions within the Sydney region.

As a Club that is linked to the water environment, I’d like to ask everyone to watch out for one another on the water.  If anyone is suffering from respiratory distress, please come straight in from your row or stop your ergo or cardio session. Make sure you are keeping an eye out for other members, and always remember to write your name in the diary before heading out on the water so we know who to look out for - if in doubt, stay away!

Keeps people safe and out of danger, and we can always make up another session later.

The Club is exempt from water restrictions with respect to washing down boats and oars, but we can save water by making sure we are mindful of the hose use and use a bucket where you can.  Please also limit your showering to 2 mins where possible.

Leading into Xmas we will see more “party" boats and cruisers in and out of Blackwattle Bay, along with the extra sailing boats that are starting to come into the Bay for the Xmas/New Year season and mooring.  Your safety is something you need to “own” - please keep an extra "look out” over the next 4 weeks, as generally these craft are not used to looking out for rowers.

If anyone wants to have a chat about the above or has more to add or other concerns, please call or email me.

Thanks - Brad
