Summer 2023-2024
Published Wed 09 Oct 2024
Our summer athletics season commenced at 2pm on Saturday, 14 September 2024, at CV Kelly Park. Our summer handbook will be attached to this page. Last year's version is there as a rough guide only.
Each week we set up from 1pm so any assistance will be appreciated. It is also wise to turn up early to warm up.
PROGRAM
Week A events:
100 metres
Javelin
High jump (corrected)
1500m/3000m Walk (upon request)
400 metres
Discus (men)
Shotput (ladies)
1500 metres (not before 4pm).
Week B events:
200 metres
Long jump
Triple jump
800 metres
Shotput (men)
Discus (ladies)
3000 metres (not before 4pm).
The Week A and B programs alternate from week to week during the season. There are two exceptions, the first being that the final event of the Week B program alternates between 3000 metres and 5000 metres. This means that over a four week period the final event cycle will be as follows - first week (Week A 1500 metres), second week (Week B 3000 metres), third week (Week A 1500 metres) and fourth week (Week B 5000 metres). This four week cycle repeats continuously throughout the season except when competition is cancelled due to our wet weather or heat policy, for another cancellation reason or for the second exception. The second exception to the alternating program is when we add our modified program. As per our calendar attached we conduct a modified program that coincides with our local little athletics zone and region carnivals and the first Saturday after Christmas. This means that little A's and their parents who are members are not disadvantaged when away competing at these events and that members traditionally away on holidays that first return week in January are not disadvantaged.
FEES
See the Summer Handbook.
To compete at our summer competition you MUST be registered with an affiliated club of Athletics Australia, Little Athletics Australia or a trialing athlete (for a maximum of two weeks).
Hiring of CV Kelly Park and other expenses make it necessary for us to also charge ground fees for weekly or seasonal participation in our summer program. Our ground fees are as follows: $4 per week for members of Girraween Athletics Club or Girraween Little Athletics Centre and $5 per week for visitors from other athletics clubs and little athletics centres. If you are intending to attend our summer competition at CV Kelly Park regularly it is more cost efficient to pay the seasonal fee of $30. This is the equivalent of 6 attendances for non-members and 7 and a half attendances for members. We also have family discounts for families of three or more competing. Weekly fees are capped at $10 for families of non-members and $8 for member families. Season fees are capped at $60 for families of non-members and for member families.
TRAINING
Training has commenced at CV Kelly Park each Monday and Wednesday night from 6pm. I'm not going to repeat the content of the email that Rodney send earlier in the week and also posted to Facebook. That information will shortly also be on the website as will this information.
We look forward to both local and representative athletics over the 2024-2025 summer season.
