What is Junior Rollers?

Junior Rollers is a fun, recreational learn to skate program for school aged kids and teens of all genders that runs for 2 hours over 9 sessions during the school Term. The focus of the program is for kids and teens to learn the basics of roller skating (how to get up, how to get down, how to start and how to stop) to enable them to skate safely around others. We then introduce some cool "tricks" to extend skaters based on their skill level. Skaters are encouraged to have a growth mindset and to set goals for themselves (instead of comparing themeslves to others).

THE 2 HOUR SESSION IS BROKEN INTO TWO PARTS: LEARN TO SKATE AND LEARN TO PLAY ROLLER DERBY

Learn to Skate (Sundays 12.30-1.30pm): Suitable for beginners through to more competent skaters, with a focus on building a growth mindset and setting personal goals while learning key roller skating skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Learn to Skate insurance = Junior Rollers $45 (you will be invoiced for insurance after registering for this event)

Learn to play Roller Derby (Sundays 1.30-2.30pm): Higher level of insurance (Developmental) is required for this, and we request that you contact us to discuss the suitability of your child or teen for this program. In general, we require skaters to have completed at least 1 or 2 Terms of Junior Rollers previously or to have some roller skating experience (be confident stopping, falling and moving around safely).

Junior Roller Derby insurance = $95 (you will be invoiced for insurance after registering for this event)

 

KEY TERM 2 INFORMATION:

Please check the dates listed on this event, as we are doing things a bit differently this Term due to our adult Roller Derby tournament resuming which will mean our trainers will not be available some weekends. To ensure this doesn't disrupt the Juniors program we are trialling holding Friday sessions instead of Sundays for the few instances this occurs.

NOTE: The Kings Birthday long weekend we have a large tournament in Adelaide so we will not be holding a makeup session as trainers will be recovering!

What if I want to learn to skate with my child?

Great! You're welcome to register yourself also (for Junior Learn to Skate only). Please note the program is aimed at children and teens however parents/carers of registered children are welcome to join in. If you'd like to join our adult class also just let us know (Monday nights 6.30-8.30pm at Churchill Leisure Centre, Thursday nights 7-9pm at Meeniyan Basketball Stadium).
