What is it about Giants that made you choose our club this season?
Giants is my family, my home
When did you start playing softball, and how many years have you played (have you taken any breaks etc)?
I started playing at 12 years old, I’ve taken a few seasons off here and there like when I had my kids I believe this is my 24th playing season with giants
How many clubs have you played for? I’ve played for 3 clubs
1st was Trojans (there was no Giants when I started). I went to Giants when Trojans folded and Giants finally had a senior team (when Giants first started they only had u/13 and I was JUST too old to play). I also played 1 winter softball season for Virginia.
Does/did anyone else in your family play softball?
Too many Dibben family members to name them all
Do you prefer batting or fielding?
I dont have a preference but still get nervous to bat at times
Which position is your favourite?
I loved playing catcher back in my younger days
Who have been your most influential coaches over the years?
Robyn Wheeler and Debbie Robins
Who have been your most influential teammates over the years?
My sister Pam Sims
Who do you love playing with?
I’ve loved playing with my family members over the years too many others to name them all
What is your biggest achievement in softball?
I guess reaching 400 games for the same club, that in itself should show anyone that Giants is a great club to be involved in.
Do you have any goals you’d still like to reach?
To be honest not really, perhaps just to keep playing.
What does it mean to you to reach 400 games with Giants?
It means I’ve been around a very long time! Back in the day we only played 1 game a week, so it’s taken a long to reach this goal which I’m very proud of and I’m also very grateful to Giants for actually counting up the games each year, some clubs don’t do it and players have no idea how many games they’ve played.
Reflecting ahead of this huge milestone, what advice would you give your younger self if you could go back?
Don’t be too hard on yourself, if you make a mistake learn from it and move on.
Is there anything/anyone else you’d like to say/share/thank/invite?
I’ve been involved in softball one way or another for 39 years. Softball and the people I’ve met because of softball has had a huge influence on my life, it’s taught me to be part of a community, how to be a good team player and also when needed a good leader. I’ve made lifelong friends as well as spent valuable time with family members and many many awesome memories made. I’d like to thank Aunty Robyn Wheeler for introducing me to softball and Mum and Dad (Bob and Heather Dibben), my sisters Pam and Carol and my kids Amber and Brock for their support and encouragement over the years.
