CORAKI hockey player Marshall Brown has been selected in the New South Wales Blues Under-15 team to compete at the national championships next month.
He is the only Far North Coast player chosen in either of the Under-15 teams and will take his place in the NSW second side.
Brown was also one of four finalists in the Hockey NSW field player of the year award.
He was nominated on the back of performances with the NSW Under-13 team last year.
"I don't think Marshall understands how much he offers a team,” FNC coach and NSW regional co- ordinator Adrian McGrath said yesterday.
"He has great vision when on the ball and defensively is very strong. He always turns up at the right time to make that cover tackle.
"Obviously Hockey NSW has identified Marshall as a talented athlete, selecting him in this year's Under-15 Blues team.
"To be nominated as a finalist for Hockey NSW field player of the year at the recent awards night is a massive achievement.
"The nomination is not only about playing ability but citizenship and respect for your coach, teammates and opposition.”
There will be no shortage of FNC talent in NSW teams at national championships in the coming months.
Jade Gray and Taquira McGrath have been selected in NSW Under-18 girls teams.
Tyler Arundell, Luca Brown, Tom Brown and Cameron Palmer will play in the Under-18 boys.
"These kids have trained hard for nearly eight months to get themselves ready for this level of competition,” McGrath said.
"They're all quality players and we expect them all to perform well.”
Tom Brown moved to Sydney late last year and is part of the National Futures Group.
It gives him access to the best coaches and is a pathway to the Australian Under-21 team.
