Fencing Mid South Secondary School Championships 2020
Eligibility: This competition is for Year 9 to Year 13 students who are enrolled in high school, correspondence school or are home schooled.
Participants must be members of Fencing New Zealand. There are two types of Fencing New Zealand membership that you can have to fence in this competition- a club membership (check with your coach/ club if you are unsure if you have this type of membership) and a full active fencing membership. (this allows you to fence locally, nationally and overseas). You can upgrade your club membership to a full membership at anytime. Please email Leasa Ogilvie to do this as you will need your Fencing New Zealand membership number.

Registration: Early bird registration will close on Monday 7th September.
Format: This competition will have both individual and school team events. Foil, Epee and Sabre will be fenced.
Individual Event: First Round: poules with bouts to 5 hits.
Second Round: Direct Elimination to 15 hits.
Separate events will be held for Boys and Girls as long as there are 6+ competitors in each gender. There will also be a novice section for those fencers who have either started fencing in 2020 or fenced for less than one year. Encourage your school mates to come to this competition too.
Teams Event : 3 fencers per team + 1 reserve.(teams do not need to have a reserve) Format will depend on how many teams are entered. Teams may be all boys/girls or mixed as long as fencers are all from the same school. Teams will be ranked from placings in the individual event.
Medals/Trophies:
Individual Competition: Medals will be awarded for first, second, third/ third equal depending on numbers.
Team Competition: Medals will be awarded for first place. Certificates will be given for second and third placed teams.

Entry Fee:
Individual Competition: $20 per weapon.
Early bird registration will close on Monday 7th September at 8pm
Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the organiser and DT. Late entries will attract an additional fee of $5.
Entries close Friday 11th September, 8pm.
Entry fees are to be paid at time of entry. Mid South's preferred payment method is by internet banking.

Team Competition: $15 if there are 3 team members, $20 if there are 4 team members.
Entry Fee for team competition is to be paid on the day when team members are known. On the registration form it says there is no payment for this event. If you are selected for your school team you will pay your $5 on the day.
Gear Requirements: Minimum 350N jacket, 350N plastron, 350N breeches or tracksuit pants, 350N mask, 350N glove. Chest protectors are compulsory for girls. Lame Foil bibs are not required. Standard (non-FIE) blades are acceptable.
All masks must be fitted well and in good state and elastic in good condition. Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary Strap/Bar. Visor Masks are strictly prohibited for all 3 weapons
Gloves- Must have no hole for body wires.
Bayonet and 2 pin body wires accepted.
Leon Paul SR-71 blades that are stamped 2013 to 2015 and Leon Paul V blades without a unique serial number will not be accepted.

Canteen: no canteen will be run at this event however there is a full kitchen at the venue. Tea and coffee will be available.

9.45-10am Boys’ Foil & Boys' Novice Foil Individual registration*

12.30-12.45pm Foil Teams registration
2pm approx Foil Teams start (but after individual finals)
2 -2.15pm Sabre Individual registration
3pm Sabre starts (or sooner if all competitors are available)
4pm - 4.15pm Sabre teams registration
4.30pm Sabre teams starts (but after individual finals)
Sunday 13 September
8.30 - 8.45am Epee & Novice Epee Individual registration
9am Epee & Novice Epee starts
12- 12.15pm Epee teams registration
1pm Epee teams starts (but after Individual finals)
* If there are not enough competitors for separate boys and girls events the mixed foil competition will start at the girl's foil time. Competitors will be notified by email of this change once entries have closed.

Spectators: As we are currently at level two we regret to inform you that because of the large number of fencers in our events we are unable to have spectators because of our venue size.
