President’s Cup & Veteran Foil 2020
Fencing Central and Fencing New Zealand invite you to attend the Presidents Cup
& Veteran Foil 2020 to be held at Rongotai College Gymnasium Wellington on 15th
and 16th August 2020
Eligibility
To fence in the open competition fencers must be 13 years or older on 1 January 2020
(See minimum age policy of Fencing NZ). If you are not sure whether the competition is
appropriate for you/your child, please check with your coach.
To fence in the veteran competition fencers must be 40+ years old on 31st December
2020.
Participants must be affiliated members of Fencing New Zealand who have paid their
membership fee for the 2020 fencing year or if you are an international fencer of your
country.

Affiliations of all competitors (national and international) will be checked at time of entry.
Competition Format
President’s Cup: One round of poules (bouts to five hits) followed by direct elimination
(bouts to 15 hits). All weapons will be fenced as separate gender.
Veteran Foil: One round of poules (bouts to five hits) followed by direct elimination (bouts
to 10 hits). Veteran Foil will be fenced as separate genders unless a minimum of four
participants in each gender is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced.
Medals: Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals will be awarded in each event
Trophies: Presidents Cup trophies will also be awarded.
Registrations
Registration closes on Friday 17th July at 8:00pm. Late entry closes on Friday 7th August at
8:00pm. After this date entry will be at the discretion of the head DT and head referee.
Entry Fees
President’s Cup: $60.00 for one weapon; $30.00 for each additional weapon.
Veteran’s Foil: $50.00 for one weapon.
Late entries close on Friday 17th July and will attract an additional fee of $50.00. Entries
received after this date (17th July) are at discretion of the Head DT and Head Referee.
Fencing Central prefers entries fees to be paid at time of registration or by 17th July. No
payments will be taken at the venue. The preferred method of payment is by internet
banking to the Fencing Central tournament account.
Fencing Central Tournament Account number: 02-0500-0025212-00. As a reference please
put fencer's name and “PRES20”.
Multiple Discipline Entry: If you are entered in multiple disciplines and the next discipline is scheduled to begin while you are still competing, you will be scratched from the then
starting discipline and expected to continue competing in the ongoing discipline. No
refunds will be provided.
Equipment Standards
All clothing must be in a good state of repair.
Torso: Minimum of 1150N protection. This can be made up either by 350N
Jacket with an 800N plastron or 800N Jacket with a 350N plastron.
Breeches: 350N (CEN 1)
Masks: 350N (CEN 1)
All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall
be in good working order with elasticity and be able return to its
original position after stretching, without deformation. The hook and
loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elastic and
resisting removal. Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary
Strap/Bar. Visor Masks are strictly prohibited for all 3 weapons.
Gloves: Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N
gloves are required for Sabre.
Chest protector: Compulsory for women’s events.
Foil specific: Lame Bibs (Curly mask wires are not permitted) and FIE blades
required, Bayonet and 2 pin body wires accepted. FIE no. 3 size
blades are acceptable.
Épée specific: FIE blades required. Leon Paul SR-71 blades that are stamped 2013 to
2015 will not be accepted. Leon Paul V blade without a unique serial
number will not be accepted.
Sabre specific: FIE blades S2000 or later blades required. Curly mask wires are not
permitted.
Weapons Check
Date: Friday 14th August
Venue: Rongotai College Gymnasium, 170 Coutts Street, Rongotai, Wellington
Time: 6:30pm to 8pm all weapons.
Weapons Check will be open one hour before the registration time of each event. Priority
will be given to out-of-town fencers at this time. Fencing Central fencers are encouraged
to have had your weapons checked on Friday night.
Control marks: It is the fencer’s responsibility to ensure that all equipment that goes
through weapons control has control marks. It is the fencer’s responsibility to ensure control
marks are still present every time they go to the piste.

Video Refereeing: Video Refereeing will be used for the final bout of all events. In all cases
it will be used at the discretion of Head DT & Head Referee.
Rule Change: FIE rule t.124, Non-Combativity will be implemented at this competition.
FIE rule t.122, is suspended and will be required as follows. Fencers will instead be required to salute each other in way of acknowledging their opponent.
Drug Free: By participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the
potential of being selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping
testing if required. The testing process and your rights and responsibilities as an athlete are

Results: Live results will be available on the President’s Cup event page on
https://fencingcentral.org.nz and at the Fencing Time Live website.
Podium Protocol: All fencers must wear either regional, club or FeNZ tracksuit jacket,
breeches or tracksuit pants, fencing socks and shoes while on podium.
Food: There may be a food stall during the tournament (to be confirmed). Alternatively,
there is a takeaway store down the road and a number of cafes in the surrounding areas.
Competition Dinner: There may be a competition dinner organized for the Saturday
evening. Details are to be confirmed closer to the time.
Accommodation: Several motels are available in close proximity to the venue.
