Fencing Mid South and Fencing New Zealand invite you to attend the New Zealand National U20 Championships 2019 to be held at Ara Polytechnic Sports & Recreation Centre in Christchurch on 23 and 24 March 2019
This competition is open to all fencers who were under 20 years of age at the 1st January 2019.
Eligibility: A fencer must be at least 13yrs on the day of the event to compete in an U20 competition. (See minimum age policy of Fencing NZ website) If you are not sure whether the competition is appropriate for you/ your child please check with your coach.
Participants must be affiliated members of Fencing New Zealand who have paid their membership fee for 2019 year. If you are not yet a member you can click on the link below to join.
Fencing New Zealand/ Regional 2019 Membership
A membership check will be done for all entries on Wednesday 20th March.
Registrations: Early bird registration will close on Wednesday 13th March at 8pm
Competition Format
One round of poules (bouts to five hits) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 15 hits) with repecharge.
All weapons will be fenced as separate genders unless a minimum of six participants is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced.
Medals: Gold, Silver and 2 Bronze medals will be awarded in each event
Trophies: The New Zealand U20 trophies will also be awarded.
Entry Fees:
Individual Event $50 per weapon
Early bird event registration will close on Wednesday 13th March at 8pm.
Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the organiser and DT. Late entries will attract an additional fee of $15.
Entry fees are to be paid at time of entry. The preferred method of payment is by internet banking to the Fencing Mid South tournament account. Credit card/ paypal payments will attract a service fee.

Equipment Standards:
Clothing: All clothing must be in a good state of repair.
- Minimum of 1150N protection for Torso. This can be made up either by 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or 800N Jacket with a 350N plastron.
- 350N Breeches
- 350N Mask. All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and be able return to its original position after stretching, without deformation. The hook and loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elastic and resisting removal. Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary Strap/Bar. Visor Masks are strictly prohibited for all 3 weapons
- Gloves- Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires.
- Chest Protectors for Women are compulsory.
Weapon Specific:
Foil: Lame Bibs (Curly mask wires are not permitted) and FIE blades required, Bayonet and 2 pin body wires accepted. FIE no. 3 size blades are acceptable.
Epee: FIE blades required. Leon Paul SR-71 blades that are stamped 2013 to 2015 will not be accepted. Leon Paul V blade without a unique serial number will not be accepted.
Sabre: FIE blades S2000 or later blades required. Curly mask wires are not permitted.
Weapons Check:
Friday 22nd March
Venue: The Fencing Institute, 91 Jack Hinton Dr, Addington
5:30pm to 8pm All weapons
Weapons Check will be open one hour before the registration time of each event. Priority will be given to out-of-town fencers at this time. Mid South fencers are encouraged to have had your weapons checked on Friday night.
Please be sure to read the file attached about weapons control and where. Check the map to see where the bag area is at the Ara Polytechnic Sports & Recreation Centre.

Please note actual event start times could change depending on entry numbers.
Video Refereeing: Video Refereeing will be used for the final bout of all events. In all cases it will be used at the discretion of Head DT & Head Referee.
Rule Change: FIE rule t.124, Non-Combativity will be implemented at this competition.
Results: Live results will be available from the Fencing Mid South website.

Podium Protocol: All fencers must wear either regional, club or FeNZ tracksuit jacket, breeches or tracksuit pants, fencing socks and shoes while on podium.
As there are a large number of cafes and supermarkets close by including one of our favourites, Black Betty. There will be no canteen on site.
ARA Polytechnic is close to numerous cafes and supermarkets.
Competition Dinner: The competition dinner will be held on Saturday 23rd March at 6.30pm.
All fencers, parents, supporters, coaches and competition officials are encouraged to attend.
