South Island Championships 2024

Eligibility: 

This tournament is an open level competition. This means it is suitable for fencers over 13 years old. We encourage you to participate in this premier national event. Check with your coach if you are unsure whether you should fence. Participants must be current affliated members of Fencing New Zealand  (ie: have paid their membership fee for the 2024 year).

9.00am-9.15am          Women's Epee Individual Registration

9.30 am                      Women's Epee Starts

12pm - 12.15pm        Mixed Sabre Registration

12.30pm                    Mixed Sabre Starts  (or sooner if all competitors are available)

12pm -12.30pm          Veteran Epee Registration

1pm                     Veteran Epee Starts (time is dependant on when competitiors finish Women's Epee)

Entry Fee:

$80 per Weapon

Entries Close: Wednesday 10pm, 7th August 2024 

Competition Format: 

One round of poules with bouts to 5 hits. Followed by a round of Direct Elimination.  Separate men’s and women’s events will be held when each gender has 4+ fencers. 

Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd equal. If events are mixed gender 1st, 2nd women will be awarded (depending on numbers). 

Rules

The rules and policies for national competitions as currently applied by Fencing New Zealand shall prevail. The organisers would particularly like to draw your attention to the following:

Video Refereeing: Video Refereeing will be used for the final bout of all events. Semi final use is TBD depending on entry numbers. In all cases use of this equipment will be at the discretion of Head DT & Head Referee.

Fencer Salute: FIE rule t.122 was revised in October 2023 for the 2023/2024 season and will be applied at this competition.

Drug Free Sport:  This event is subject to the Drug Free Sport NZ regime. Random anti-doping testing may be conducted at this event. As an athlete it is your responsibility to be familiar with the rules and to obtain any Therapeutic Use Exemption that may be required. Failure to comply with the DFSNZ protocols will be treated as a doping offence under rule o.107.

Podium Attire: Tracksuit jacket (regional, club or national); breeches or tracksuit pants; fencing socks and shoes.

Equipment Standards

This is a national event. Current FeNZ policy for national events applies.

All clothing is expected to be in a good state of repair and be washed.

Photography and Publication

Photography is permitted at all Fencing New Zealand competitions, as the competition venue is a public place. However, photography is strictly prohibited in non-public areas such as changing rooms and toilets. Participants are advised to refrain from changing in public spaces, as doing so forfeits their right to privacy. Fencing New Zealand and Fencing Mid South reserve the right to publish photos and videos taken at the competition on social media, the internet, and printed media, including images of spectators and officials.
