The mixed outdoor hockey rules will align with the Rules of Hockey 2021 http://www.fih.ch/media/13350505/fih-rules-of-hockey-jan2021-update.pdf except for the following local rules:
- The mixed competition for 2021 allows up to 5 males on on the field, per team, at any time with a maximum of 3 men (over 15 years) on the field, per team. Boys are under 15 years (must be 14 on 1 January).
- No tomahawks by anyone (a tomahawk is a reverse stick/backhand shot, often lifted).
- During a short corner, men can only take the first shot if the ball is pushed (it cannot be raised higher than the backboard).
- All shots at goal must be below backboard height (including during penalty corners and field play). It is considered dangerous play if a shot at goal is higher than the backboard.
- If a team is short of players (ie has less than 11 players), up to 2 fill-ins can play from other teams.
- Any new rules that the committee determines are necessary for fair and safe games, will be added here.
There will always be some discretion required from umpires, for official rules and “local rules”, and we all make mistakes or judge things differently. Our main objective should always be to keep everyone safe. Players need to respect our umpires at all times – it can be a tough gig! Always play safely and encourage each other to continuously improve our skills, and have fun!
