Lake Macquarie and Endeavour Regattas – 17 & 18th February 2024

Published Tue 20 Feb 2024

We had two wonderful days of racing with clear skies and calm water. Although the temperature rose well into the thirties on both days, it did not reach the 38 degrees that would have cancelled competition. Quite a few faces glowed red at the end of the weekend.

Twenty five Endeavour rowers participated with two others having to pull out due to injuries.

From 55 starts, our club recorded 13 wins, 11 seconds and 17 thirds. Our senior masters womens quad stood out with Lindy Nisbett gaining 5 wins, Di McShane and Rosie Furness 4 each and Chris Brennan with 3. Eleven of our club members took home medals.

An incident that detracted from the success of the racing was the loss of Prentice Bond’s outboard motor. Prentice had lent his boat to be used as a sentry boat. The Lake Macquarie sentry tried to intercept a fast moving boat and was caught in its steep wake. As the tinnie slewed around, the motor twisted off the stern and went to the bottom of the river in 5½ metres of water. At the time this report was written the motor was still down there.
