2024 Head of the Hunter, Henley on Hunter, and Head of the Manning

Head-of-the-Hunter – 14/9/2024

After the difficulties experienced in getting crews onto the water at the Raymond Terrace boat ramp last year, it was decided to change the format of the Head-of-the-Hunter for 2024. All operations were centred on Berry Park with crews boating and finishing at the same location. Crews rowed 6 kilometres downstream to the far end of the brick house straight where they marshalled for the return time trial. The starter was able to get crews away in numerical order every 30 seconds as scheduled - a process that had not been achievable last year.

38 crews completed the course in times varying from 28.09 to 57.28 minutes. 5 Endeavour rowers participated, with the best result going to Rosie Furness in a quad with 3 Lake Macquarie girls who had the fourth best time of 30.35 minutes. The double scull of Fiona Webb and Di McShane finished in 37.23 min while single scullers Jacob Cobley and Peter Bowman finished close together in 42.10 and 42.15 minutes.

Henley-on-Hunter – 15/9/2024

Entries for this regatta were disappointing, with no school entries and only one crew from Sydney. Of the 41 events, only 15 received enough starters to form a race. With just enough nominees in the Mixed Endeavour Eight to form one crew, it was decided to give them a race as 2 crews in a Mixed Endeavour Four. The start of the 20 races was put back an hour to 9.00am and it was all over by 12.30. The weather didn’t co-operate with cold temperatures and gusty wind, but at least it didn’t rain, despite the predictions.

However, the Endeavour members did co-operate, with the regatta organization working perfectly – everyone pulled their weight – it was a well-oiled machine. A special mention to Myff for the catering – the Henley Party Packs containing homemade scones and sausage rolls with a piccolo of sparkling tea were terrific- well done Myff!

Seven Endeavour rowers won medals, with each of the winning crews in the 3 “Endeavour” events containing at least one Endeavour rower. In the regular events, Endeavour gained 1 win, 7 seconds and 1 third from 13 starts.

Winning crews:
Womens Masters Quad Scull: Rosie Furness + composite.
Mens Endeavour Quad Scull: Dave Henderson + composite.
Womens Endeavour Quad Scull: Chris Brennan, Myff Lawrie, Diana Trescott + composite.
Mixed Endeavour Four: Dave Percival, Katrina Whiteley + composite.

Head-of-the-Manning – 28/9/2024

A single Endeavour rower tackled the 16 kilometre course around Dumaresq Island on the Manning River. Peter Bowman’s $10 entry fee earned him 1 hour, 39 minutes and 46.90 seconds of rowing – value for money!
