Play Water Polo with Easts
Why?
Water Polo is a great sport for summer – in the water and competing with friends. Fitness combined teamwork and enjoyment.
Where?
Easts are part of the Newcastle Association and train at Charlestown Pool. We play on a ‘home and away’ basis against teams from Swansea Pool(Lake Macquarie), University of Newcastle, Mayfield Pool (Bar in) and Lambton Pool(Central). Easts play the majority of their games at Lambton Pool as it is more suitable pool for senior teams and U12 and U14 games at Charlestown pool. Flippa ball program for U6 - U10 is held at Charlestown pool.
When?
The main competition is held on Saturday. Game starting times vary, depending upon the pool we are playing at. Junior games generally start at 10am with senior games following usually starting around 12.00pm. The season generally commences the first Saturday Term 4 breaks for Christmas school holidays and finishes in the middle of March. Flippa ball program is run on a Saturday mornings during competition dates.
How long do games last?
Games are played over 4 quarters, each quarter lasting between 6 and 8 minutes.
What about training?
Skills and teamwork are developed at training. All levels are catered for. Usually held during the week from 5:30pm to 7:45pm at Charlestown pool Thursday nights or. 6:30pm to 7:30pm Wednesday nights for some junior teams for more pool space.
How much does it cost?
The registration fees are posted on the website as soon as they are determined by the Newcastle Water Polo Assoc. Most of the cost goes to Water Polo Australia & NSW Water Polo for insurances & development etc. Part of the fee goes to Easts club and the Newcastle Association as well. Active Kids Vouchers can be used to offset cost for junior players.
What about the future?
Water Polo is an Olympic sport and is played worldwide.You can become a representative player for Newcastle in State and National competitions. After that you can achieve many things – play in an Olympic team, travel the world and earn money or have fun in a University team – whatever you choose to do!!
