Impound

The impound is used to identify and isolate vehicles/bikes that have qualified for a record attempt.

It is the responsibility of the impound officer to manage the impound. They must be available to process entrants as they present at impound.

You will need to include your name, member number (optional), job, day/date and morning or afternoon shift.

Job Description

Shifts:

  • AM - 7:30am to 12pm Monday to Friday

  • PM - 1pm to 5pm Monday to Thursday

Description:

Australian Records are determined as the average of a qualifying run and a record attempt.

The impound is used to identify and isolate vehicles that have qualified for a record attempt.

Entrants must report to Impound Officer immediately after they qualify for a record attempt up to a maximum of 30 minutes. When a record is set on their record attempt, the entrant must return to impound for record certification which is done by the technical inspectors. All this information gets recorded in the Impound Log.

Responsibility:

It is the responsibility of the Impound Officer to manage the impound. They must be available to process entrants as they present at impound.

Duties:

If you are doing a morning shift, you must go to the Impound van and collect the tub of equipment needed for the day.

The first presentation (qualification)

  1. When an entrant presents, insert the time and member number in the Impound Log. Please have a look at an example page from the Impound Log there are 3 copies of each numbered page, Blue - Entrant copy - gets given to entrant when they have made a successful attempt, must be returned to be updated when they make a successful record attempt. Yellow - DLRA copy - gets given to Record Certification Officer when an attempt is successful. White - Book copy - stays in the book.

  2. Record the timing slip details into the Impound Log. (They have to get their own timing slip)

  3. Check the time of the run against the time presenting at Impound, it should not exceed 30 minutes.

  4. Check against existing records, that the vehicle does actually qualify to set a new record. (Rulebook is supplied)

  5. Where vehicles are entered in a GAS class, notify the technical inspector that a fuel check is required.

  6. Instruct the entrant where to park in Impound if required.

  7. Observe entrants whilst servicing their vehicle.
     

The second presentation (record certification)

  1. When the entrant presents, insert the time in the Impound Log.

  2. Record the timing slip details into the log.

  3. Check that average of speeds attained, has exceeded the existing record.

  4. Where vehicles are entered in a GAS class, notify the technical inspector that a fuel check is required.

  5. Technical Inspector may measure and certify engine capacity. (Check for seals fitted)

  6. Confirm class with Technical Inspector.

  7. If all criteria above are successfully met, certify the record into the log.

If you are doing an afternoon shift, you must then pack up all equipment into the Impound Tub and take it to be stored at the Impound Van overnight.

Equipment can be stored daily at the Technical Inspection caravan.

  • Digital Fuel tester

  • Volume Displacement gauge

  • Spider Gauges

  • Digital Thermometer

  • Rulebook

  • Club radio

  • Clock/watch

  • Fridge

  • Safety vests, clipboards, pens.
     

Reports to:

  • Volunteer Coordinator

  • Chief Technical Inspector
     

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Have excellent knowledge of the DLRA Rule Book.

  • Have good mechanical knowledge.

  • Have good communication skills and be able to take direction well.

  • You need to be firm, but polite when dealing with entrants.

  • You need to be able to stay calm under pressure.
     

What to bring?:
Bring a hat, sunglasses, sun cream, snacks. Water is provided at the registration van.
