The ‘Learn to Sail’ course at DSC runs for 8 weeks and will take you from novice to competent! During the courses you will have hands on experience, beginning sailing with an instructor and learning the basics. By the end of the course we expect participants to be able to complete a small ‘race’, guided and supervised by instructors.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is for young sailors from 7 to 14 years. Please register with the participants details (not the parent/carer).

Throughout the Learn to Sail, instructors will follow the Australian Sailing prescribed syllabus, with an emphasis not only on learning and progression, but keeping in mind safety and fun!

Participants may complete the Learn to Sail 1-2 times and progression is at the sailor’s discretion or instructor’s recommendations. 

Active Kids Vouchers

The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the new Active Kids program and Australian Sailing is an approved provider. From 31 January 2018, parents, guardians and carers can apply for a voucher valued up to $100 per calendar year for each school-enrolled child. The voucher may be used with an approved activity provider for registration, participation and membership costs for sport, fitness and active recreation activities. Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
