Alison Mourant awarded Life Membership
Alison Mourant’s story exemplifies how one person’s dedication and passion can transform both a club and its community. She is a deserving and inaugural recipient of Life Membership at Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club.
Since joining Derwent Storms in 2008, Ali has been a cornerstone of the club. Her journey from a dedicated member to Head Coach in August 2010 is a testament to her unwavering commitment and passion for the sport.
Ali’s leadership has set a high standard, fostering a club culture admired by many. Her integrity, compassion, and tireless efforts have earned her immense respect from club members. Ali’s dedication to dragon boating has been marked by humility and a selfless focus on the interests of both the club and the Tasmanian dragon boat community.
Welcoming new members with warmth and encouraging paddlers of all abilities, Ali’s leadership qualities shine through. She leads by example, mentors club coaches, and actively seeks feedback to improve. Her approachability and willingness to provide individual training programs and advice have made her an invaluable resource for guidance on training regimes.
As a long-term member, Ali’s contributions extend beyond coaching. Her role as a committee member over many years has been instrumental in the club’s growth. An accomplished Aurora, selected in four campaigns, Ali has also become an accredited sweep, official and attained Level 3 coaching accreditation – the highest level for any Tasmanian dragon boat coach.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ali’s supportive emails, exercise challenges, and outdoor activities kept club members connected. Her efforts ensured that Derwent Storms emerged from the pandemic with no significant loss of membership, quickly becoming a more consolidated and supportive unit.
As State Coach, Ali has encouraged growth within all clubs and trained coaches throughout the state. This has indirectly contributed to Derwent Storms’ growth by fostering strong local competition and strengthening the state team for interstate competitions.
Ali’s unwavering dedication to the club’s best interests continues to drive opportunities for member growth, promote the sport, and ensure the club’s longevity. Her leadership and commitment are a source of inspiration for all.
