You may have seen Fynn flying his Wing around Fannie Bay or Kiting off Nightcliff. Fynn, previously a Minnow sailor is now putting all his efforts into Kiteboarding & Wing Foiling with some big aspirations.
In January Fynn attended his first kite competitions with some amazing results. Based on these results he will attend the GKA Freestyle Youth World Championships in Spain next month. We wish him the best of luck in this event and will be watching the results!
3rd WA State Freestyle
2nd Australian Freestyle Nationals (U14)
3rd Australian Freestyle Nationals (U18)
2nd QLD Big Air (U18)
Kiteboarding is not Fynn’s only passion, after doing a Learn to Wing Course at DSC in 2023 Fynn purchased his own Wing and foil board and has not looked back taking to it like a duck to water!
Earlier this year Fynn was accepted into the Australian Sailing Next Gen Wing Foil program with Queensland Academy of Sport. Fynn is one of 10 sailors accepted onto the program and the only one from the NT. The program is designed to capture up and coming talent on the Wing with the goal of Brisbane Olympics in 2032. The program is run out of Brisbane, so logistics are complicated, Fynn has been trying to get across once a month, depending on wind.
After the Kite World Championships there will be no time to rest as the Wing Racing program will commence mid-September, starting with Youth Sail QLD quickly followed by Youth Sail SA and Youth Sail NSW in preparation for the Australian Wing Nationals in January 2025.
This is an amazing effort for a local sailor, and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievements despite the lack of competition on offer in Darwin. We are hoping to be able to introduce a Foiling division into regular club racing at DSC as the discipline grows.
