Ten of our club’s exceptional youth sailors recently made the journey to Yeppoon, Queensland, where they trained and competed at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club. YouthSail QLD kicked off with a three-day coaching clinic led by Australian Sailing’s top-tier coaches. Our young sailors had the opportunity to meet and learn from Australian Olympians & Olympic coaches, an inspiring experience that heightened the excitement ahead of the regatta.
Following the clinic, the team put their skills to the test in the Youth Championship regatta, featuring a variety of classes and divisions. Yeppoon's breezy, gusty weather created ideal sailing conditions, and our NT sailors rose to the occasion, taking home several podium finishes.
Leading the team was our very own Sailing Racing Training Manager and NT Coach of the Year, Alanna Field. Alanna not only represented the NT on the coaching front but also took the opportunity to expand her knowledge, particularly in the exciting foiling disciplines. Working closely with seasoned experts like Mitch Pearson and UK Olympian Tom Squires, she sharpened her coaching skills and brought back invaluable insights to share with the Club. Alanna is eager to implement what she’s learned and enrich our future coaching offerings.
We couldn’t be more proud of our young sailors and their incredible coach. Be sure to give them a high-five when you see them around the Club and ask them about their favorite Yeppoon memories.
