The 2024 season at Darwin Sailing Club’s Training Academy has been one of incredible growth and success, with nearly 1,600 students participating. From beginners to experienced sailors, every participant has shown tremendous progress, building not only their sailing skills but also their confidence and teamwork abilities.
A special thanks goes to our dedicated instructors for their passion and commitment. This season, we’re saying goodbye to four instructors—Ari Cousens, Owen Doran, Kira Lesh, and Phoebe Wiltshire—who have been invaluable to the academy.
We also celebrated standout achievements with several awards. Fynn Goat received the Instructor Encouragement Award, while Phoebe Wiltshire earned the Instructor of the Year Award for her outstanding support and positive influence on students. Lomoso Hilly was named Junior Trainee of the Year, and Joep Horsten received the Adult Trainee of the Year Award for his enthusiasm and progression in sailing.
This season marked the debut of the RS Quests, used by over 750 students, and the introduction of the Making Waves Youth Sailing Scholarship, made possible by Cullen Bay. Four scholarship recipients—Jabari, Harlen, Kody, and Ella—excelled in their intensive training and are on track to join the instructor team next season.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors and the Training Committee for their hard work and support. We’re excited for what the 2025 season will bring, including the Minnow National Championships in Darwin! Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic year!
