- Summary: A brief history swords and techniques, and the romanticisation of the "martial culture". A brief look at jidaigeki and chanbara genre in Japanese cinema history, and their influences in modern media. A small biography of author Yukio Mishima, and what a cringe weeb he really was.

Movie Night 2: Yojimbo (1961)

- Title: Yojimbo (1961)
- Director: Akira Kurosawa
- Summary: Starring Toshiro Mifune, this is one of Kurosawa's most successful films. Set during the end of the Edo / Tokugawa period, a nameless wanderer (ronin) stumbles upon a town beset by conflicts between two rival gangs. This film was later remade by Sergio Leone in A Fistful of Dollars, and Mifune's acting and characterisation heavily inspired "The Man with No Name" portrayed by Clint Eastwood over the many Spaghetti Western movies that followed.
