We paddle together... rain or shine
Published Sat 19 Aug 2017
If you have ever been to Melbourne, you would have heard the saying "Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day." Boy did that happen today! One minute we were paddling with the sun out, the next a dark cloud came and unloaded all of its rain upon us. It was a tough mental exercise to keep going as noted by one of our paddlers, Shen Loh:
"Hi Team. Today's training session was a crazy challenge for me. The rain, cold and wind didn't help and I wanted to quit so many times. Countless times I thought about yelling 'THIS IS CRAZY, TAKE ME BACK!'
I didn't think I was going to die, but I had to fight with myself. I was trying to reassure my body that everything was going to be okay. The fact that everyone else was so encouraging helped me through. I trusted Coach Joe and Cat to call out if it was too dangerous, even though I thought they were crazy.
I know that everyone else had experienced training in the rain, but today was my first time. Today, everyone helped push me to my absolute crazy limits.
P.s. I can finally feel my hands and feet..."
