Victorian State Team Selection Camp

Published Fri 12 Jan 2018

Only two more sleeps until the long-awaited day comes upon us. What do you ask? The Victorian State Team Selection camp!

For those that have never heard of the State competition before, there is a State vs State race day held every year at the Australian Dragon Boat Championships. This year, the State Team races will be held on Day 1 of the Championships on Sunday, 4 March 2018 across different divisions: Junior U18, Premier Division, Senior A, B, C and Regional Division.

There is a two-step process to making it into the Victorian State Team. The first round was a benchmarking day held on Saturday, 11 November 2017 at Acceleration, AAMI Park, which pitted paddlers against each other on the bench press, pull-ups, sit-ups, kettle bells and the beep test exercises.

Successful paddlers were then invited to attend the Victorian State Team Selection Camp, which will be held this Sunday, 14 January 2018 at Community Hub at the Dock, Docklands. Each division has a separate structure for the day involving multiple assessment sessions, which may include 2x200m TK1 trials, 1km runs, 500m runs and/or 100m relays.

The Selection Camp will be a long day for all involved, so make sure you rest up, bring light snacks to munch on throughout the day and stay hydrated. When not racing, please support when required and cheer on your fellow paddlers!
