With race season 2018/19 looming, we reflect on the journey the club has made, particularly over the last two seasons.
Season 2016/17 saw the instatement of new captains.
Under their leadership and with a renewed focus and mindset towards our approach to training, on and off the water, the club was aligning for competitive mode. Particularly crucial was the effort put in during the off-season winter months as it would form the foundation of a successful race season, translating in placings at Victorian level regattas. The peak of that season saw us make our first ever final at AusChamps2017, where we came away with a 5th overall (Premier Open 10s over 200m). In that season, our Mixed 20s crew also made the semi-final.

In season 2017/18, we saw an improvement in longer distance racing.
We not only entered open, mixed and women's crews in the 2km sweeps races, but also medalled in some. The 12km Patterson Lakes Time Trial and 6.4km Battle on the Barwon races at the start of the season made us realise that we were capable and could enjoy this. We also entered our first Masters 10s crew that season that saw us finish with a 4th at Carrum Cup with a crew of 8 paddlers in the small boat. This included Coach Joe as a paddler. A sign of things to come!
At AusChamps2018 on the Sunshine Coast, the club would achieve personal bests in all the categories that we entered. This included a history-making haul of medals with our Open 10s crew over 200m (silver), 500m (bronze) and 2000m sweeps race (bronze). We also took out a 4th for our Mixed 10s (200m), and semi-final appearances for our women’s 10s (200m) and mixed 20s (500m) crews.
