Well done to everyone who participated at the Melbourne Cup regatta on Sunday, be it as crew member, coach, volunteer or supporter. It was a beautifully warm day that promised so much and delivered. Following consistent winter off-season training, we were well prepared for this, our first regatta of the 2015/16 race season.

Entering both the Premier Mixed 20s and Open 20s (200 m) with essentially a mixed crew in both categories (18 paddlers, drummer and sweep), we were successful in making finals for both, with times that were improved over those recorded previously at training sessions. The racing was exceptionally close and while we did not ultimately place for a trophy, we should be proud of our perfomances (particularly considering we were pitted against all male crews in the Open 20s). It was also thrilling to have Coach Joe at the head, drumming in the Premier Mixed 20s. Looking forward to the regattas to come.
