Grecia Foong recounts her first regatta experience

Published Tue 27 Feb 2018

Four weeks of training just before my first regatta. Has it only been four weeks? It honestly feels like a lifetime at the moment. To be honest, days leading up to the Vic Champs I felt really nervous as I didn’t feel that I was fully equipped and prepared. It didn’t help that I had pulled my shoulder muscle just days before the regatta. My biggest fear was letting the team down after all the effort they put in training. At the end of it, I was glad to be able to participate and experience for myself the fun and excitement of being in a team working towards the same goal.

Thanks to the support and team spirit from the CYSM Sea Dragons family, as well as a special thanks to Palmy for encouraging me even when I doubted myself as to whether I could do it. I will definitely continue to improve my techniques so that next time I will be more prepared for my next regatta! For those who are still considering whether to take up dragon boating as a sport, I highly encourage you to take that leap forward. It is definitely a very rewarding sport and the best part is you will be able to share it with everyone else on the team!
