From the desk of the Sea Dragons Social & Events Coordinator

Published Mon 12 Jun 2017

The CYSM Sea Dragons had a busy and competitive season with regattas and travelling to Albury/Wodonga in April for the 2017 Australian dragon boat championships (AusChamps). It was also a big year for some past and current members becoming first time (or second time) parents!

As the dragon boat season 2016/17 draws to a close, we will soon be opening up the AGM meeting floor for Sea Dragon members to join the Club Committee for season 2017/18.  I must admit I don’t think that all our members (in particular our first season paddlers) are aware which of their peers are on the Committee.

Find out who we were this season and what we aimed to do in our roles.

If the word club Committee scares you a little, you are more than welcome to help us (minus the Committee commitment), be it your expertise and/or hobby, to make our club easier to run and manage socially and competitively.

Let’s recap what social and events we got up to this season.

August 2016: A number of Sea Dragons paddlers joined forces with Dragon Masters (combined we became known as the “Sea Masters”) at the Battle on the Barwon (BoB) 6.4km time trial.

November 2016:  We had a Sunday afternoon of karaoke singing English and Chinese songs in the CBD.

Another weekend saw a number of Sea Dragons fly north to Sydney to celebrate the wedding of Rui & Jack (who met at this dragon boat club many years ago).

December 2016: The Carman’s Women’s fun run in support of BCNA was held at Catani Gardens in St Kilda.  Had a terrific debut of Sea Dragon female paddlers & friends hit the road running pavement.

A couple weekends later the Sea Dragons Christmas party was held at the Lucky Penny Café on Chapel Street.

March 2017: Post-Victorian Titles regatta team dinner at Chelsea Inn Chinese Restaurant.

May 2017: Mandy & Carlos (who also met at this dragon boat club) got married in Melbourne.

June 2017: Three Sea Dragon paddlers team up with Melbourne Flames to race at the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Festival

Coming soon July 2017: End of Season Awards party to be held at Morocco Lounge

So what’s in store social and events-wise for the CYSM Sea Dragons in season 2017/18? What do you members want? Have a think and let us know…

Signing out in 3,2,1.....Sea Dragons!!!! :)
