Dragon boat is a sport for people from all walks of life. No matter how old you are, how fit you are, your ethnic background, your gender, your job or any other ‘label,’ dragon boat is an inclusive sport that brings people together.
This inclusiveness was exemplified at the Nagambie Lakes Regatta, where not two, but three dragon boat teams banded together to create a formidable Premier Women’s 20s boat! The team consisted of paddlers from CYSM Sea Dragons, Southern Storm and Mount Beauty, aka Sea Storm Beauties.
The team delivered fantastic results by placing 2nd in their heat and 3rd in the final race. It was as if the team had been paddling together for years! This moment was special for all parties involved, but especially for Cathi Joy SoldierWolf from Mount Beauty. Her appreciation for the day can be summed up in a few sentences:
“… I am so proud to receive this [ribbon] from CYSM. It will be cherished forever. Thanks [Vicky Chung] for the lovely note too. The Dragon boat world are full of awesome people! Go Sea Storm Beauties!”
When the need arises, we hope that the Sea Storm Beauties will join forces once again to compete at Regattas and give the other Premier Women’s 20s boat teams a run for their money!
