The CYSM Sea Dragons opens crew might have tasted more success in 2017 but the most recent AusChamps has Jack Chui reflecting back on our team's first ever AusChamps in 2011 where the women were the powerhouse of CYSM.
CYSM brought a crew of about 16 paddlers to Canberra to race in the mixed and women's 10s over 200m. The women's team won their repechage to make it to the semi-finals. It was the first time CYSM had fielded its own women’s crew, having always combined with other teams like Dragon Masters.
Coach Joe wasn't expecting much from the girls but he was stunned at their performance. Over half the crew had been doing weight training outside water training which made a huge difference. It was a very proud moment for the team. Its been done before and can be done (better) again!

In the regattas of this season, including VicChamps and AusChamps, the Sea Dragons have been fielding strong mixed crews. It has been particularly heartening to see the emergence and growth of our women's crew who are going from strength to strength. The future is strong for girl power at CYSM!
