Boy, what a gruelling but successful regatta for the CYSM Sea Dragons last week at Nagambie Lakes (Sunday 26 November 2017). We fielded a crew of only 18 paddlers, which meant that most of us did not have any breaks. The races were back-to-back to the point where we did not have to marshal for the next race. It was out of one boat and into the next straight away!
The weather was also atrocious, with infrequent rain and storms. The temperature was forecasted to be hot at 28 degrees, but it changed dramatically from hot to cold in a matter of seconds. However, all of this did not break our spirit. In fact, this regatta was one of our most successful regattas, where we entered 5 categories and came away with placings in each. Four 3rd places and a whopping 1st place, where we managed to beat 2nd place by a mere 0.04 seconds…! Now that is a race that we will remember for years to come.
Our success could not have happened if it were not for all the paddlers that volunteered to fill in the empty spots of our boat. We cannot thank you enough for all the help you offered and hope you enjoyed paddling with us! Many thanks also to Aunty Mee Chin (Mama Loh) for spending the day with us and helping our club and the DBV community!
Stay tuned for recounts of first time regatta experiences in our next post.
