CYSM Sea Dragons has never shied away from a competition. We are a resilient team that competes, no matter what challenges we face.
The 2018 Victorian Championships was a definite challenge for the CYSM Sea Dragons. With the competition being held during Chinese New Year, it was unfortunate that the entire team could not be present to compete at the last Victorian regatta for the 2017/18 season.
Nevertheless, our fighting spirit prevailed and we put forward a formidable team of 21 paddlers. We raced in the categories of:
Premier Mixed 10s (200m) Heat 1 – 00:53.55
Premier Mixed 10s (200m) Heat 2 – 00:58.08
Premier Mixed 10s (200m) Finals – 00:53.00
Premier Womens 10s (200m) – 01:07.50
Premier Open 10s (200m) Heat 1 – 00:51.86
Premier Open 10s (200m) Finals – 00:53.18
Premier Mixed 20s (200m) Heat 1 – 00:52.00
Premier Mixed 20s (200m) Finals – 00:52.70
Premier Mixed 20s (500m) – 02:13.63
Open Sweeps Race (2km) – 11:35.94
Mixed Sweeps Race (2km) – 11:34.91
This year, Dragon Boat Victoria awarded winning teams with individual medals, instead of trophies. CYSM Sea Dragons raced our heart out and was awarded 3rd place in the Premier Open 10s (200m) finals. Although that was the only race we placed, we gave every race our best shot and gained invaluable experience for the upcoming Australian Championships in a weeks’ time.
Overall the 2017/18 season has been a season built upon the successes of last season. We will put our best foot forward and make sure that we never give up. 3, 2, 1, Sea Dragons!
