Day 2: 100m sprints (Mixed 20's) and also 200m relay (Open and Women's 10's)

Day 3 - 2:30pm finish: 500m (Mixed 20's)

Teams: ‘World Cup’ themed racing as per 2021

  • Clubs are invited to enter a ‘fixed mixed’ team of up to 28 paddlers (including sweeps, drummers and emergencies) in an age category – Premier, Senior (40-54) or Senior (55+)
  • Composite crews are also permitted from across clubs, states or countries (they can be outriggers, kayakers – as long as they can be covered for insurance, using a Dragon Pass or being a paid-up member of a dragon boating club affiliated with AUSDBF
  • As this is a World Cup style event, numbers per category are limited.
  • As in 2021, some flexibility will be available, enabling some ‘out of age’ participation in the Senior age categories, using the Victorian by-laws. Our goal is to make it easier to build teams, increase participation and improve the quality of racing
  • All paddlers must be entered on their team list at the start of the competition. The crew list remains the same over the three days
  • Teams compete in both Mixed 20s and Open and Women's 10s crews in races across four distances - 100m, 200m relay, 500m and 1km pursuit race
  • Points are awarded to every team in each race based on their times. The Southern Cross Cup winner in each category is based on the team with the most points over their four race categories.

Cost per team

  • $2,250 (excluding GST)* which equates to under $30 per paddler, per day for a full team
  • Clubs are limited to a maximum of two teams per category.

*It is recognised that the costs for the 2022 event are higher than in 2021. In 2021 AusDBF was able to provide a generous contribution to the event due to AusChamps not being held in 2020 and 2021.

  • Payment will be in 30% and 70% instalments.

Medals and awards

  • All participants winning a place in each race category receive an event medal
  • Winning teams in the Premier, Senior 40-54 and 55+ categories are awarded the 'Southern Cross Cup'.

Providing Volunteers:

Clubs are requested to supply at least one volunteer to help for the morning and/or afternoon sessions.  Premier paddlers are welcome to volunteer in the AM and Senior paddlers in the PM.
