Club Awards

At the end of each season, the club gives out a number of awards pertaining to the outstanding contributions and/or physical & technical achievements of our members.

For this purpose, the club has a voting system.

• The committee will compile a list of all eligible nominees for each category
• Members to cast votes based on nominations and are allowed to cast up to 3 votes per category. Votes will be ranked.
• Each category is decided by the number of 1st votes. 2nd and 3rd votes will be tiebreakers.
• With each vote, there is an option for members to write a short sentence on why the vote is given (only to 1st vote). The best sentences will be read in ceremony, making the ceremony more relevant and rewarding.

Exceptions:

• The Club Captains for the given season in which the club awards are being made are deemed ineligible. They will instead facilitate the award and voting process as they have no personal vested interest
• Members are not to vote for themselves
• Most Improved Paddler and Rookie to be awarded by coaches and active sweeps
• A sweep will need to be at least level 2 and had been an active sweep during season. A sweep is considered active when he/she has swept over the season in races and in several training sessions. If in doubt, the Committee will make a decision whether a sweep is eligible to vote for the season.

Joe Alia Best Rookie

Eligibility: First year member. A minimum of 3 months, and a maximum of 15 months membership needed to be considered as a rookie. A paddler cannot be considered a rookie more than one season. This award is named in honour of former club heach coach, Joe Alia.
