YSF SUMMER DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 

The CYCSA Summer Development Squad provides sailors an entry into Youth Sailing Foundation. Aimed at active club sailors and sailors who have successfully completed the Holiday squad and Summer Squads, the Development Squad allows sailors to continue developing their keelboat sailing skills, gaining a better understanding of racing knowledge and tactics. 

Run-on Tuesday afternoons; the program provides excellent opportunities for sailors to develop and work towards Performance squads.

 

Development Squad Objectives

• Provide coaching, theory, and training for sailors to develop their sailing skills for keelboats.
• Improve fleet racing skills using Elliott 7’s.
• Build a better level of boat handling skills using both asymmetric and symmetric spinnakers.
• Develop sound knowledge and understanding of Racing Rules of Sailing.
• Improve tactics to enhance fleet racing skills.
• Introduce basic match racing concepts.
• Gain valuable teamwork experience.

 

Block 1 Training Program – Tuesdays (1630-1930)

6 weeks: 14 Feb - 28 March 

 

Key Regattas

The Summer Development Squad focuses sailors on two key events.  The first event is an internal Fleet Racing sprint series. Training focuses on boat handling, fleet racing skills and knowledge.  The second event is an internal Match Racing event.  Training will introduce basic match racing concepts building key skills and knowledge.  Sailors will rotate through all positions developing a well-rounded skill set. Development Squad goals include the aim to send teams interstate to compete. 

 

Eligibility

Sailors who want to join the Development Squad must be aged between 16-25 years old and have demonstrated sailing ability at club level. Submit an application of 200 words or less outlining your achievements, sailing goals, and ability to commit to the program addressed to Maddy Salter - ysf.coach@cycsa.com.au

 

Squad fees – $390.00 inc. GST per training block.  

Includes all boat use, coaching throughout the program, YSF Squad Team Shirt and CYCSA Junior Membership valued at $90.00.  Junior members receive club access, 10% discount on food, drink and merchandise.  Members also receive a 10% discount on future courses.

Program Focus:

The Intermediate Fleet Program includes scheduled and regular coaching. Allowing you to practice and race in club and class association programs at clubs.

At Intermediate Fleet level you may remain active- for-life, and enjoy lifelong activity which can cross multiple disciplines, and class of boat or board. 

During the Intermediate Fleet Program, there is continued freesail opportunity to support further enjoyment in the sport and environment.
