Course information
Course Overview
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to experienced Powerboat Operators who wish to attain the Powerboat Handling certificate. This process is commonly known as ‘Direct Assessment’ and is primarily an opportunity for the applicant to demonstrate their powerboat handling skills. The assessment which is measured against ‘performance criteria’ also includes written / oral questioning and is structured around the syllabus for both the Start Powerboating and Powerboat Handling courses.
Course Prerequisites
All applicants must hold a current boat license (or Certificate of Competency) and be experienced powerboat operators. Persons holding an overseas qualification may also be eligible for Direct Assessment. Prior to assessment applicants should familiarise themselves with the Powerboat syllabus and logbook and complete the shaded sections of the application form.
Who should do this course?
Although Direct Assessment has been historically used by coaches, officials, marine teachers, and some others it is available to all suitably experienced persons. For instructor course applicants, another suitable qualification may be acceptable (e.g. Coxswain, RYA, other overseas qualification) and you should contact your relevant Club Services Officer for further advice.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Powerboat Handling completion certificate.
