The Royal Flying Doctors Murray River Rowathon
Date: September Saturday 9th September 2023
Place: Wentworth NSW
Rowing Distance: 92kms
The Flying Doctor Rowathon is an annual one day marathon row held on the Darling / Murray Rivers and hosted by Wentworth District Rowing Club. It is the longest one day marathon rowing regatta in Australia and raises funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The row is just over 3 months away and as some pretraining is recommended, it is the opportune time to make a decision as to whether you would like to participate in this unique event. It doesn’t mean you have to row the whole distance; if we can gain enough interest, crews can be organised with multiple rowers who can chose to complete in as many sections as they are comfortable with.
The rowathon is not suitable for novice rowers.
To assist with organising crews, entry forms etc I would like to hear from the following:
- A representative from preorganised crews
- individual rowers (without a crew yet)
- rowers interested in participating in several sections but not the whole length
- support people are needed so if you know of family or friends who are willing to help
- if uncertain but would like to be considered as a fill in if a rower pulls out closer to the time, your name can be included on an emergency list.
This rowathon is on the same weekend as Winter Time Trial 5.
For this rowathon, it is recommended regular training starts in the next few months. This fundraising endurance event will be 92 km this year with three rest points depending on the course. Entries open early July.
The 2023 participant entry fee of $85 includes a Rowathon T-shirt.
The cost for the day meals, breakfast, morning tea, lunch and end of rowing snacks is $40pp and the Survivors Dinner is $35pp, all paid with your entry.
More information about the row and the course can be found at: Royal Flying Doctors Murray River Rowathon
If you require any further information or have any questions please look at the official website or I can be contacted via my email addresssandra_reddy@hotmail.com.
Look forward to hearing from all those keen Capital Lakes rowers up for the challenge.
