Hi All,

The Traditional Boat Squadron of Australia Inc. will hold the next Canberra Classic Boatfest on the weekend of 20th to 22nd April 2018.  The Boatfest is open to traditional boats, either original vessels or new builds, powered by oar, sail, steam, internal combustion or electric motor. It is part of the wider heritage Festival in Canberra.

The regatta will be located on Lake Burley Griffin, and this is a great opportunity for CLRC to show off our timber fleet - Octo, Yellow Sub, S&B quad, S&B double (plus Les and my own timber boats). It would be good to get a Masters crew together for the Octo, plus with the two quads (coxed) an opportunity for a junior team/s and/or another Masters??

Looking at the program and what we might do:

Priority 1: Sunday (22 April) sail (row) in grand parade to Kingston Boat Harbour. Getting out at Kingston may be tricky (high wharf, poor landings), but we will think about it and come up with a plan. Expect to assemble Lotus Bay/Yacht Club approx 9.30 am

Priority 2: Saturday (21 April), lake cruise east into central basin. Public viewing at jetty, shoreline. Would involve assembly Lotus Bay site 9am. Inspection by water police for safety.

Whatever, it should be fun with lots of very pretty wooden boats in company. And it would not take out much more of the Saturday or Sunday than any normal weekend row. For both options we would row down to Lotus Bay then just row back to the shed after parade/cruise. Family and friends could gather on shoreline or Kingston Boat harbour as part of the fun.

The Boatfest requires that we register boats this week. It would be good if I could get an initial level of interest quickly, and then we sort out teams closer to the days. Can you please email me at parrs1@bigpond.com.
