Rowing Program at Capital Lakes Rowing Club

Capital Lakes Rowing Club offers rowing for all levels - Learn to Row, Novice and Competitive as well as Social and Para-rowing. Rowing Programs are for designed all ages and abilities and training is overseen by qualified and experienced coaches. If you would like to row with us you are required to be a member of the Club or if you are a visitor to Canberra, pay a casual seat fee.

Organised sessions are held on most mornings: 5:30-7:30am weekdays, and 6:30-9:00am weekends.

The Club participates in the Winter Time Trial series, local regattas and selected interstate regattas. We also have an active social rowing program that sees us traveling to Sydney, the Tweed, Victoria and other interstate venues.

Learn to Row

At Capital Lakes we offer the 'Go Rowing' course for people wishing to learn to row. This course has been developed by the national body - Rowing Australia, and provides an excellent introduction to the sport of rowing and to the aquatic environment. The course consists of six two-hour lessons. It covers the basic sculling stroke (rowing with two oars), basic care and set up of the rowing boat, safety in the aquatic environment, and some of the rules while on the water. The cost of the 6 session learn to row program is $250.

Rowing classes are generally run on weekend mornings between 7.30 and 9.30 am.

To Keep Rowing...

After completing the Go Rowing course, novice rowers are welcome to join the club and participate in organised rowing training through a Transition Program.

Masters

The Club has an expanding Masters program suited for male and female rowers who are coming back to rowing after a (often long) break, or for those who wish to take up the sport for the first time. Masters is for rowers over 27 years. We find that many often continue through to their 60s and 70s and beyond. CLRC conducts separate Learn to Row programs for Masters and trains at similar times to junior and senior rowers.

Masters rowing sessions are:

Tuesday 5.30 - 7.30 am
Thursday 5.30 - 7.30 am
Saturday 6.30 - 9.00 am
Sunday 6.30 - 9.00 am

For more information on Master’s rowing, contact capitallakes@gmail.com

Junior/School Squads

Junior/School Squads generally train three times per week during the following days as arranged by Squad Coaches:

Monday 6.00-7.30 am
Wednesday 6.00-7.30 am
Friday 6.00-7.30 am
Saturday 7.00-9.00 am

Competition

Rowers who wish to participate during the ACT Regatta season are organised into squads according to ability. Each squad has a coach who will arrange regular training sessions and these will be advised to you.

Social Rowing

For those Masters rowers who do not intend to compete, social rowing is available at a variety of times with coaching provided on an ad-hoc basis. Crews are generally formed when you show up, giving you the opportunity to meet and row with other people.

Evening and Moonlight Rowing

Capital Lakes Rowing Club will also organise afternoon and evening rowing sessions as the weather conditions permit. Keep an eye on the website or like us on Facebook to see if sessions are happening.
