Capital Lakes Rowing Club (CLRC) caters for all aspects of rowing, with a particular focus on junior and youth development. The Club's vision is for all members to enjoy rowing, to have access to quality coaching and supervised training programs, together with the support and encouragement to achieve individual potential, while working and developing as a member of a team - either socially or competitively.
The Club was established in 1998 to promote rowing into the general community, with a focus on junior development for students at schools which do not offer their own rowing programs. The Club offers a full range of rowing for all categories of members, including Schoolboys and Schoolgirls, para-rowers and Masters. We row socially and competitively.
Capital Lakes Rowing Club starts all novice rowers by teaching them to scull – rowing with two oars. When they are sufficiently developed, rowers may later progress to using sweep oars – one larger oar in a crewed boat.
Capital Lakes does not differentiate between members and expects all members to contribute to the operation and functioning of the Club. The Club views its operations as an opportunity to become involved in an active way in management of a vibrant organisation, with juniors encouraged to take a role on the Club committee.
The Club participates in a full range of events and activities in the sport at the Junior, Senior, Para and Masters level. We participate in local ACT summer regattas and the Winter Time Trial series, while selected rowers participate in the Spring ACTAS sponsored time trial series. We also participate in selected interstate regattas, mainly in NSW, and at the National Championships.
The club caters for social rowers, who simply want to keep fit and enjoy the beauty of rowing on Lake Burley Griffin. The club has two "yole" coastal rowing boats, which masters take on expeditions to the coast, the mountain lakes and Sydney Harbour.
Over the years, Capital Lakes has produced several elite rowers, with one of our Club members currently training with the Australian Women's U23s.
We welcome visitors to Canberra who would like to row while they are here, or for those rowers looking for a more permanent home.
