2023/24 Junior Coaches. Expression of interest

Hunter Hurricanes are calling for expressions of interest from those interested in being junior head OR assistant coaches for the 2023/24 season for the following teams:

  • U12’s combined
  • U14’s male and female
  • U16’s male and female
  • U18’s male and female

Hunter Hurricanes are committed to continuing the fantastic growth in elite junior water polo through the following strategies for 2022-23:

  • The selection of youth squads from which tournament teams will be selected
  • The pursuit of individual, age-specific skill-based milestones under the guidance of the Hunter Hurricanes technical head coach
  • Accreditation of head coaches
  • The development of assistant coaches for all age groups to grow our talented coaching pool
  • Identification of a range of tournaments, games and gala days to support continued growth across all levels of hunter hurricanes athletes

Hunter Hurricanes are planning on competing at the following events across all age groups. The following summary of our 2023/24 calendar is indicative and subject to change. It is provided for aspiring coaches to make an informed choice when expressing interest in coaching roles:

  • 3-4 regional “Gala” days focused on providing competition opportunities for development squads (e.g., Central Coast, Ovens & Murray, Tamworth)
  • 3-4 “friendly” games vs metro teams focused on providing competition opportunities for tournament teams
  • Canberra Cup (Canberra, 10th-12th November 2022) 14's & 16's only.
  • Water Polo Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (Brisbane, January 2024)
  • WPNSW state championships (Sydney, April 2024)
  • Other WPNSW run / sanctioned events (e.g., Narwhal Cup etc)

This year, we are hoping to implement a coaching panel that will comprise of experienced coaches who will support the board in the appointment of coaches, provide education and mentorship to our team coaches and support team and squad selections where required.

Those who express interest are committing to the following:

  • Junior planning session mid/late August
  • Between 2-3 in-pool training sessions per week
  • Monthly coaching team catch ups / debriefs
  • Mentoring/supporting assistant coach development (head coaches)

When you nominate your expression of interest you agree that

  • You support the Hunter Hurricanes focus areas (above) and commit to our 2023/24 competition schedule
  • You have a current working with children’s check (or are able to obtain one before 24th August)
  • You have a current First Aid certificate and a current CPR certificate, or you are willing to obtain both
  • You are an accredited Development Coach or higher OR you are willing to obtain Development Coach accreditation with our support

Nominations will be open from the 6th of August and close at midnight on the 13th of August. Applications will be reviewed by the team and a decision announced shortly after.
