The Canberra Pirates trials for the Women's Travel Team (WTT) is open for registration and will be held on Saturday, 24 February 2024, at 5:00 pm and Saturday, 2 March 2024, at 5:00 pm it is highly recommended that you attend both. If you're unable to attend and still want to tryout for The Canberra Pirates please provide a detailed explanation which will be assessed by the coaches.
You will need to be ready to get on the ice on time so you can be briefed by the coaches on what the trials will include. We will not hold an information session this year; instead, we will send all information via email.
Trials cost:
Saturday, 24 February 2023 from 5:00- 6:15 pm - $25
Saturday 2nd March 2023 from 5:00 - 6:15 pm - $25
It is recommended to attend both sessions.
Further information about the Pirates season and player expectations is below.
The WTT play in the IHNSW Women's League on behalf of Ice Hockey ACT over the winter season commencing the weekend of 6th and 7th April. The coaching team is Gord Cockell as head coach and Mark Rummukainen as assistant coach. With about 21 games per season, plus finals, the season will consist of double header home games and approximately 10 away games (sydney) and Finals.
Season cost:
Fees will be $450, which will be split into part payments throughout the season, plus each game played, which is approximately $20 per game. Players can get their own individual sponsorship to cover this cost if they wish.
Player expectations:
- Attend weekly on-ice training (notifying coaches ASAP if you can't attend). Trainings will be at 7pm on Wednesday nights
- Commit to travel for away games.
- Participate in fundraising and sponsorship activities. This may involve wearing sponsor logos on uniforms and equipment (e.g. helmet stickers)
- Provide sufficient notice if you're unable to make a game
- Act in a professional manner
- Have a winning attitude
