The Canberra Pirates is the highest-level women's ice hockey team in the Canberra region. Since its establishment in 2014, the Canberra Pirates has grown closer to its goal of being apart of the development of entering a team in the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL), the highest level of women's ice hockey competition in Australia.
This year the Pirates will again be playing in the Ice Hockey NSW (IHNSW) Women's League. From March to September, this league plays home and away games in various locations throughout Canberra, Sydney and Newcastle. In 2022 and 2023 the Canberra Pirates made it to the Grand Final of the IHNSW Women's League and took home the silver. This year we are determined to bring the gold home to Canberra. For many players, this team it is vital in bridging the gap for women from club-level ice hockey to the national elite. The ultimate goal of the Canberra Pirates is to provide a multi-level development pathway for girls and women in the ACT to play ice hockey at higher levels.
