Wellers Penalty Corner Club – free training sessions

Penalty Corner Attack (PCA) and  Penalty Corner Defence (PCD), can win or lose a game. Are you looking to improve your skill or learn new skills to help your team come out in front?

We are planning sessions during the back end of December and during January to start learning the art of the penalty corner.

These sessions are designed for all junior players U18 at any skill level or age. What the player needs to bring:

• Your hockey stick and mouthguard
• A willingness to learn
• An intensity to train hard and practice
• A strong desire to improve your individual skills

The skills we will learn are:

• Injecting the ball
• Trapping the ball
• Hitting, drag flicking and slapping techniques- strength and practice are your only limits
• Attacking deflections and layoffs
• We will also spend time on the art of defence and strategies for keeping the ball out of the net. Penalty Corner Defence (PCD)
• Goal Keepers are also included. We have Tom Dyall CHC MPL GK attending all but the first session. GK’s are a big part of this training.

As we progress, we will spend time practicing individual skills and understanding the strategies:

• Tomahawk
• V drag
• Penalty strokes – taking and defending
• Overhead flicking
• Dribbling at pace
• Goal Keeping – be the master of your circle, understand the strategies, direct your defence, learn keeping techniques.

The focus will be on individual skills and not team drills. This will require players to listen, learn and practice, practice, practice.
