A fun and interactive night of learning about the game we love.
Dick McKarras, President of the South Australian Squash Referees Association will be taking us through rules and refereeing interpretations of many of the calls we see in a regular pennant with a focus on safety and understanding. Lucas Norman from Squash SA and Justin Beard from Push Your Limits Person Training will be running through each scenario live on the court while Dick explains the black and white rules and their interpretations.
Why do we need to know the rules and have a common interpretation of them?

  • Fair Play and Consistency: A shared understanding of the rules ensures consistent application during matches. Players and referees can make informed decisions, reducing disputes and promoting fair play.

  • Improved Sportsmanship: Knowledge of rules fosters respect among participants. Players are less likely to engage in unsportsmanlike behavior when they understand the boundaries set by the rules.

  • Efficient Officiating: Well-informed referees can enforce rules effectively, maintaining game flow and minimizing interruptions. This enhances the overall experience for players and spectators.

  • Safety: Awareness of safety rules helps prevent injuries. Players can take necessary precautions, and referees can enforce protective measures, ensuring a safer sporting environment.

  • Enhanced Game Understanding: Knowing the rules deepens players’ understanding of the game. It allows them to strategize better, anticipate opponents’ moves, and make tactical decisions.

  • Positive Club Culture: A rule-aware club culture promotes respect, teamwork, and camaraderie. When everyone adheres to the same standards, it creates a positive atmosphere.

  • Community Building: Shared knowledge of rules fosters a sense of community within the club. Players, coaches, and referees collaborate to uphold the integrity of the sport.

A club supper will be provided by the Club after the session for some banter, robust discussions on rules and some conviviality
