Please note as per the rules below, any competitor who is aggrieved by the handicap mark allocated, solely on the basis of new information, has a right of review to the handicapper on the payment of a non-refundable fee of $50.00. If you would like to request your handicap mark is formally reviewed, please complete the following form.

HANDICAPPING

  1. It is important to note prior to detailing the handicapping process that a team independent of the Athletic Leagues of Australia will be undertaking the handicapping for the Bunbury Geographe Gift. The following key points will underpin handicapping decisions.
  2. The intent of the handicapping team is to ensure a level playing field for all competitors.
  3. Current or existing handicaps for competitors may be considered from other events but all handicaps for the Bunbury Geographe Gift will be determined based on previous and current performances across a variety of events.
  4. All events will be handicapped to scratch.
  5. No direct penalty will apply for wins in previous professional running events.
  6. Fair handicapping relies on all competitors providing accurate and verifiable performances for a variety of events other than those scheduled competition races. Handicappers will consider a variety of factors in determining handicaps. Such as, track surface, weather and timing system.
  7. Any competitor who fails or provides misleading performance information will be penalised.
  8. Consideration will be made of an athlete’s potential of natural improvement due to age or indicative competition progression. 
  9. The more accurate and reliable the information provided to the handicapper the fairer the handicap. Insufficient or poor quality information will result in a more conservative handicap mark.
  10. Handicapping marks will remain live and may be adjusted after declaration and prior to the commencement of the event if any additional information is identified regarding an athlete’s performance.
  11. Any competitor who is aggrieved by the handicap mark allocated, solely on the basis of new information, has a right of review to the handicapper on the payment of a non-refundable fee of $50.00
