Sailing at Brisbane Sailing Squadron
For our members, sailing on the Brisbane River is a special experience. River sailing is quite different to "bay" sailing and we think it builds both character and skills. It certainly takes character to keep focused when sailing variable tidal flow, and experience to know when to trade off wind strength for relief from the prevailing current . River conditions develop the important skills of being able to read the variations in wind and tide to gain advantage.
The upside is that our courses are more protected than the more open bay courses. We are able to complete races when races on the bay are being cancelled. You are never far from land, which adds to safety, and also leads to closer sailing.
It's a great place to sail, whether you're learning, or an experienced campaigner.
