Saturday greeted competitors with perfect sailing conditions — a consistent 13-knot south easterly wind that set the stage for some exciting racing. With a strong incoming tide, sailors found the down leg challenging as they battled against the flow, but the real thrill came on the return leg. As the tide worked in their favour, many took to their kites, soaring down the course with speed and precision.
The turnout for Saturday's racing was fantastic, with more than 60 boats competing across multiple divisions. The fleet was filled with a variety of boats creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. The challenging tide and wind conditions tested the skills of all sailors, but there were plenty of smiles and camaraderie as boats crossed the finish line.
After a day on the water, everyone gathered for a social BBQ evening at the club. The local prawns and meats were an absolute hit, and the event was made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers and organisers. A massive thank you goes out to everyone involved for making the evening such a success!
Sunday started off a little slower than Saturday, with light winds keeping sailors on land as the morning drifted by. A delayed start didn’t dampen spirits, though, as competitors enjoyed a bit of downtime before getting back on the water. When the breeze finally picked up in the afternoon, it was all systems go for a final round of racing just off the club.
The light winds made for some interesting tactics, with sailors needing to carefully manage their boat speed and positioning to gain any advantage. Racing took place in front of the club, providing spectators with a great view of the action as the fleets jostled for position in the shifting conditions.
As always, the famous coffee machine provided by Peter was a welcome sight, serving up hot brews that kept everyone’s energy levels up and spirits high as the event wrapped up.
The Bridge to Breakers regatta was a fantastic weekend of racing, socialising, and community spirit. Harwood Sailing Club extends a huge thank you to all the sailors who took part, the volunteers who made everything run smoothly, and the spectators who cheered from the shore.
With perfect sailing conditions on Saturday and a relaxed, fun atmosphere on Sunday, this year’s regatta was a huge success. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next event!
